Gaming comes to ROG in a new way with Citadel XV, our first self-made virtual experience
A passion for gaming has been at the core of the Republic of Gamers since its founding in 2006. We’ve gone from creating top-of-the-line motherboards and PC components to building an entire ecosystem of devices that enrich your entire gaming experience. Fifteen years later, we’re taking our enthusiasm for games to a whole new place. With our first interactive experience, ROG Citadel XV, we’ve created a showcase for our latest technology in the medium we love.
ROG Citadel XV is a signature part of our “For Those Who Dare” virtual launch event at CES 2021. Initially conceived as a fresh way to let audiences interact with ROG products during this global pandemic, the game took on a new life as our team brought their excitement for games to the fore.
The ASUS Design Center (ADC) and the celebrated team of animators at Moonshine Studio joined forces to develop an ambitious virtual experience unlike any other ever made by ROG. The result is an exciting interactive experience that includes stories from the ROG visual universe, a gallery tour of the latest ROG devices, and an FPS-style minigame.
Diving into action
In the virtual world of the Republic, our heroes are G.A.M.E.Rs who must rise up to defeat forces of oppression. The citadel is their base, where all their weaponry and new technology is developed. ROG Citadel XV starts with you waking up in the depths of this fortress as a recruit for the G.A.M.E.R. cause.
Omni, a fun-loving robot and hero in the ROG universe, guides you through four themed demo rooms to give you an up-close-and-personal look at our latest products. You can peruse virtual renderings of the exciting new gear available in our 2021 lineup and beyond, including the ROG Gladius III wireless gaming mouse, ROG Claymore II RGB mechanical keyboard, ROG Swift PG32UQ 4K 32-inch gaming monitor, dual-screen Zephyrus Duo 15 SE gaming laptop, ROG Strix SCAR 15/17 gaming laptop, and the all-new ROG Flow X13 convertible gaming laptop powered by XG Mobile external graphics.
After the grand tour, a shooting range is unlocked where you can test your aim and reflexes. Fire off rounds in an arcade-inspired, first-person shooter minigame as 3D targets move rapidly across the screen.
ROG Citadel XV is available to download today on Steam, so you can jump in and find out if you have what it takes to join the Republic.
Constructing the citadel
More than anything, Citadel XV is a passion project for ROG designers, artists, and engineers. As avid gamers ourselves, creating a virtual experience was a vision that everyone was excited to bring to life. Despite the enormous challenges that any kind of game development entails, we strived to execute the project with as much care and attention as we put into all of our products.
The story itself is a natural extension of our existing ROG visual universe, which we’ve explored in a number of ambitious brand videos, most recently RE:IGNITE.
ROG Citadel XV has been an opportunity for us to get to know game development first-hand, and it’s given us a deeper appreciation for the needs of developers and gamers. That’s part of why we chose to develop the game in Unity, one of the most popular game engines. By living the processes inside and out, we can create even better experiences for gamers, designers, developers, and all creators.
Looking ahead
This is only the beginning for the ROG Citadel XV project. We’re looking forward to improving the existing content and continuing to expand our virtual universe moving forward. At ROG, we’ve never been afraid of trying new things.
Download ROG Citadel XV on Steam today to check out our new ROG products, get a sneak peek into the ROG universe, and be the first to see all the latest updates and expansions in the future.
