ROG Tek’Tonic Mods At Dreamhack Bucharest
- Team: Mekatronix Works
- Team Members: Ioana (demi_), Ovidiu (elsOGS), Mihai (elsElcid)
Technical details: Scratch build open case with an original design the concept behind the project was that of a space station/platform using the color theme of ASUS ROG - Poseidon and Maximus Formula.
"First of all, we would like to start with a big thank you to ASUS ROG Romania. Some of you might have tuned in this weekend, to the DreamHack convention in Bucharest, Romania. ASUS ROG was there, and prior to the convention they held a modding competition, which we couldn’t attend, because of some technical issues we had with the motherboard in our mod. A few days later, after the modding competition had ended, we posted pictures of our mod online. The guys from ASUS Romania were very excited about our project and called to invite us to DreamHack Bucharest, to display our Mod alongside the other winners of their competition."
More details about the project:
The lines are precise but with consistent variations of 90° and 135° angles.
The upper side of the case holds the main components (motherboard, cpu, ram and graphics card) at a visible angle, covered only by PCI-E Riser shields and a custom made plexi tubing, sporting the same lines mentioned above.
The whole waterblock and cooling is made out of multiple layers of plexiglass (and some aluminium for heat transfer), cold-welded using an UV-reactive resin which transforms them into a monoblock. The bottom part (inside) holds the 360mm radiator used for cooling, a pump a reservoir, PSU and SSD.
Most of the case is made out of CNC cut plexiglass, and then hand-sanded to the precise size. It’s reinforced with aluminium bars and a double coat of self adhesive foil. The self adhesive’s are one dark black and one anthracite grey carbon fiber style. The black layer is specifically added to block the light on designated areas.
The light show is made using LEDs and LED strips, controlled by an Arduino, and is thus customizable.
Each of the team members had some experience in graphic design, electronic wiring and computer assembly, but we had never attempted such a project.
Without further adieu, you can find a few pictures of the project below: ”
