Expanding horizons: How ROG can take you beyond gaming
Life doesn't get much better than playing the most graphically demanding games at 4K resolution, knowing you’ve tweaked your system perfectly. That said, your high-power rig is capable of much more than just gaming (wait, wait, hear me out..). All that power and processing speed means you can open the door to a variety of creative pursuits. If you’ve ever wanted to unleash your inner artist, game designer, or simply show the world just how powerful your system is, then read on.
Graphic design
Those in the graphic design world tend to favor a certain type of computer for their industry (I’m sure you know the one I’m talking about), but the reality is that if you’ve got a fast processor and GPU with plenty of VRAM, you’ll have no problem running professional-level software. Gaming laptops like the ROG STRIX GL702 or the GL502 both have more than enough speed and power to get your art on even on the go, whether you just want to make some high quality banners for your clan, or dip your feet into web or poster design.
3-D modelling and animation
ROG Epic debuted on April 1st (aka April Fools'), 2016 created using Autodesk Alias
Most of the professional grade software packages for 3-D modelling and animation are also very easy to run for an overclocked gaming rig. The ROG GT51CA, for example, will hardly break a sweat running MAYA (or almost anything else to be honest, thanks to the option of dual Titan X 12GB set-up). If you’re interested in modding, simply want to make your own models for a game of your own, or put together some impressive machinima, this can be a great way to get even more use from your rig.
Streaming and video editing
If you’ve ever watched the big time YouTubers, you’ll notice they normally have the best setups they can afford, so you get to watch their play session or review without bleeding eyes. Streaming games and video editing is easier than ever, and you can give your audience the very best viewing experience possible with a system like the ROG G20CB (which, frankly, looks like it has just arrived on Earth from the Pleiades to help humanity reach a technological utopia). Even better, the NVidia cards come with software just for streaming. You’ll certainly run video editing software on a system like this with ease. ASUS graphics cards come with a 1-year premium license for Xplit Gamecaster to get you started.
Game design
Lastly, but by no means least, why not try your hand at designing your very own title? The indie scene is huge at the moment, and with a high-end gaming rig, the only thing stopping you from building a game more epic than Skyrim is your imagination. And time. And a studio full of devs. Okay, perhaps you should start smaller, but the fact is that a number of pre-made game engines are available for anyone to buy, and a ROG system will make the Unreal or Unity engines run silky smooth. You'll be losing yourself in your own vast game worlds before you know it, and who knows, it might be the next big hit.
No limits
That’s not all, of course. There’s 3-D printing, film-making, server hosting — the list goes on. There's also the fact that gaming rigs like ROG and STRIX are easy to overclock, so you can push even more performance out of taxing modelling software, HDR film edits and complicated 3-D printing plans. Our friendly community is always full of great ideas too, so why not get involved and see what you're capable of?
