John Carmack leaves id Software
It is the end of an era in the PC gaming world, as John Carmack, the legendary tech guru behind Doom, Quake and other popular game titles, has left id Software, the company he co-founded back in 1991. John Carmack will continue its work at Oculus working as CTO for the Oculus Rift VR headset.
Earlier this week, Carmack released a tweet saying that he wanted to remain a technical adviser for id Software but it just did not work out, and this move is probably for the best since the divided focus was challenging. While Bethesda earlier told that Carmack is still the part of the studio, it looks like the arrangement could not be kept. It is still unclear how much influence will this have on future id Software titles, but Carmack's name certainly has its weight.
His colleagues at id Software, including current studio director Tim Willis, said that his departure will not affect any current projects and, of course, as his colleagues for many years, wished him well on his further projects.
