Guide: How to connect ROG XG Station 2 to your MacBook Pro
Our forum member JasperTheG has already managed to get the new ROG XG Station 2 working with his new MacBook Pro. See how you can get ridiculous gaming power on your MacBook Pro by hooking it up to an XG Station 2.
Hey fellow ROGans!
Just got my hands on an ROG XG 2 and borrowed one of the GTX 1080s (ROG Strix) from my full tower. XG 2 looks sick when matched with the Strix GPU, but it took a little Googling to get this to work on my MacBook Pro (please don't hate me!) so I thought this might help somebody else looking to do the same. From my understanding, the procedure isn't the same for all models, here are the specs for mine:
- MacBook Pro 13" 2016
- No Touch Bar (would've liked to test it out but the price didn't seem justified)
- 2.0GHz dual-core i5
- 8GB 1866MHz (LPDDR3)
- 256GB PCIe SSD
- Intel Iris Graphics 540
- 2 Thunderbolt 3 ports (USB Type-C - make sure you have this!)
In 3DMark - Fire Strike Ultra, the score went from 317 to 4,343!
In Unigine Heaven, the score went from 170 to 2553!
Here's what I did in 3 simple steps:
1. Use Bootcamp to install Windows 10 64-bit.
2. Go into Device Manager in System Settings and disable the FaceTime HD Camera (labelled as Root Port #10 - 9D19).
Over here:
After you disable it, it should look like this:
3. Install the latest Nvidia graphics driver (376.33).
That's it! The system will take a few mintutes to reboot, no need to be alarmed.
If you did it right, it will look like this:
If you screwed up, it would look like this, so go back to step two.
If you are looking at this, then you have screwed up majorly and you need to either go back to step 1 or ask somebody for help :)
Happy gaming everyone!
