ROG and ACRONYM collaborate once again to reshape the future of mobile computing
ROG and renowned technical apparel firm ACRONYM first collaborated in 2020 to design a special edition version of the Zephyrus G14, and we’ve joined forces again to leverage their design expertise for an all-new project. ACRONYM knew exactly what ROG device they wanted to work with for their next project: the ROG Flow Z13. The Flow Z13 debuted in 2022 as the world’s most powerful gaming tablet, and is an incredibly versatile device on its own, but ACRONYM’s design team took it to a whole new level. By incorporating functional elements from their existing bag designs, as well as a bold reimagining of what a tablet chassis should be, they built the ROG Flow Z13-ACRNM RMT02, a Flow Z13 for new forms of versatility and portability.
Designed for ultimate versatility
Custom-machined aluminum gives rigidity to a brand-new frame, and acts as a robust carrying method for the device. Rubber holds are thoughtfully placed along the rear to provide grip no matter how you have the tablet oriented, with rubber corners to keep the machine safe from accidental bumps or drops. This attention to both visual and tactile details is something that ACRONYM excels at, and the RMT02 is truly a one-of-a-kind machine.
Combining ACRONYM’s material-first design philosophy and avant-garde style with the Flow Z13’s unique take on PC gaming, the RMT02 redefines mobile computing. Stylish from any angle
Like the original Flow Z13, the RMT02 also features a standalone detachable keyboard that doubles as a screen protector, allowing you to get serious desktop work done on the road. Finished in gorgeous dark leather, and featuring ACRONYM’s own custom alphabet and stylized keys, the keyboard is a functional yet striking work of art. In true ACRONYM fashion, form follows function.
ACRONYM’s ingenious strap design sets this device apart as well. This multi-functional strap acts not only as a standard carrying handle in briefcase and shoulder configurations, but when attached to all four mounting points can turn the RMT02 into a hands-free dream machine for producers, allowing you to easily use a stylus to take notes or draw on-location sketches. When connected to Wi-Fi on a production set or job site, the RMT02 truly pushes the next level of possibility.
Luxury you can feel
The custom CNC-milled aluminum chassis has even more tricks up its sleeve. To begin, the bare metal was flattened to ensure there were no blemishes or other imperfections. ACRONYM wanted to make sure that the pure aluminum alloy 6063 would shine through, so they used a gradual 352-minute milling process with multiple different tools to create intricate patterns on the surface of the metal. As a final step, the aluminum is anodized to preserve the aluminum’s natural luster and prevent oxidation and corrosion.
An integrated kickstand easily transforms the RMT02 into a traditional laptop form factor in a landscape orientation, perfect for gaming, creation, or content viewing. Unique to the RMT02, that same kickstand can also be used when the machine is a portrait orientation, making it the only Z13 capable of hands-free use from both angles. And of course, the strategically placed 45° angled rubber grips on the chassis make the device easy to grip as a handheld, keeping up with any fast-paced lifestyle.
For those on the go, quick and efficient transport of all your accessories is an absolute necessity, so the gallium-nitride 130W USB Type-C power adapter, cables, and stylus fit snugly in a waterproof carrying case designed to meld seamlessly with the device's unique styling.
Years of collaboration
To design the RMT02, ACRONYM cofounder Errolson Hugh called on an all-star team of experts, starting with industrial designer and feature film concept artist Phil Saunders, best known for designing the iconic Iron Man suit for Marvel Studios. His experience working with metals complemented graphic artist Raf Rennie, who joined the team to refine the RMT02 aesthetic, logos, and typography, while designer Brandon Smith engineered the multifunctional strap system for the device. The project was spearheaded by Rod Chong, an LA-based creative director and long-time collaborator with Hugh and ACRONYM. As a collective, this team embarked on a multi-year process to produce a truly one-of-a-kind machine.
“The design idea of the RMT02 seeks to make a new proposition,” said Errolson Hugh, cofounder of ACRONYM. “We're trying to reimagine how you can interact with the world around you, together with your machine, and do things in a new way. We chose to partner with Republic of Gamers because they had a completely open-minded approach. They were willing to go into unknown territory, and they had the know-how and the competence to deliver those ideas.”
