Polish overclocker, and winner of AOOC 2012, Xtreme Addict has set a new 3DMark11 world record in single GPU, with his ASUS Radeon HD 7970 DirectCU II. He managed to get the graphics core to run at a mammoth 1700MHz, with the memory at 1950MHz, using hardware volt mods and liquid nitrogen cooling. When twinned with a 6.5GHz Intel Core i7 -3770K, also under liquid nitrogen,  Xtreme Addict scored a colossal 18309 points.

Overclockers are often very secretive about what they do to their motherboards and graphics cards, but Xtreme Addict has gone as far as producing a detailed guide, including pictures, explaining what modifications he has done to his HD 7970 DCII to get such an amazing score. You have to be pretty brave to do it though, as it involves volt modding and re-soldering parts of the card!
