ROG Absolute Zero: World Record Wrap-Up

It was a long but awesome week June 25-29, a time filled with the fumes of overclocking frenzy and the joint joy of world-famous overclockers coming together with ROG and ASUS team members. All were united in their quest for world-record benchmarks, and that quest bore some lovely fruit. As we described earlier, master OCers Fredyama-san, RSannino, Viss, Splave, and Hazzan were all on hand, cooperating with ROG’s own Andre Yang, Raja, and Shamino. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all guest overclockers for making the trip to Taipei, and to apologize to Splave for spelling his nom-de-OC as Splav on more than one occasion… The hardware was plentiful, with Intel Core i7’s all-round and an ample supply of ASUS GTX 680’s and ROG MATRIX 7970 graphics cards. The motherboards you ask? Well, more could not have been hoped for from the Maximus V Extreme and Rampage IV Extreme. They did their work most diligently. Equally important to the collective effort were the consumables. You thought I was referring to the coolant? Well, no, more like the “beverages” (energy drinks, fizzy soda, and some other nectars I’d rather not get into right now, but all perfectly legal!), potato chips, chocolate chip cookies, and an assortment of other overclocking nutritional staples.

World Record Roundup

There were long hours aplenty, with the guys regularly staying overnight to pursue ever higher scores. And higher scores they got. Here are all the new world records established during the event, now with the glory of links! -       SuperPi by Andre Yang, 5 seconds 140ms with Intel® Core™ i7-3770K on ROG Maximus V Extreme at 7023MHz HWBot Submission -       PiFast by Andre Yang, 10.27 seconds with Intel® Core™ i7 3770K on ROG Maximus V Extreme at 6976MHz HWBot Submission -       3DMark 11 extreme preset by Hazzan, 16806 marks with ROG Rampage IV Extreme and 4-way SLI® ASUS GeForce® GTX 680 DirectCU II TOP Futuremark Hall of Fame -       3DMark 11 performance preset by Hazzan, 33190 marks with ROG Rampage IV Extreme and 4-way SLI® ASUS GeForce® GTX 680 DirectCU II TOP Futuremark Hall of Fame -       3DMark 11 entry preset by Hazzan, 34458 marks with ROG Rampage IV Extreme and 4-way SLI® ASUS GeForce® GTX 680 DirectCU II TOP Futuremark Hall of Fame Another huge first was the employment of liquid helium on an Intel-based board for the first time. That stuff makes the standard liquid nitrogen look really tame, and if you want enough of it, you might as well prepare the budget of a small country. It’s kinda like the unobtanium of overclocking I suppose, except you can obtain it. Absolute Zero was a huge success for everyone, showing that the ROG community approach helps bring people together and serves to promote the spirit of overclocking beyond providing the hardware. To celebrate, the ASUS and ROG team put together this awesome tribute video, so check it out: Trust you me, the crew is already planning the next event(s), which could be closer to where you happen to be than you think…so keep watching this space for more details as they overclock, I mean, unfold.

And in case you missed it...
