The difference comes from the the GPU Stream Processor count and lower clock speed, so it does surprise that the EK-FC R9-290X series are compatible. It features a very high flow design and can be used with weaker water pumps and features 0.6mm wide microchannel structure that should further improve the heat transfer while not sacrificing the famous low hydraulic restriction design.
