Here come the ROG and ASUS GeForce RTX 2070 graphics cards
The new kings of graphics have a prince. Hot on the heels of the release of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti and RTX 2080 comes the RTX 2070, pairing real-time ray tracing and artificial intelligence with cutting edge gaming and VR performance. Just as we offer multiple versions of the RTX 2080 Ti and RTX 2080, we have the ROG Strix, ASUS Dual, and ASUS Turbo RTX 2070 cards ready to rock. Each one offers innovative cooling to ensure that these GPUs deliver unprecedented sustained gaming performance.
It’s Turing time
All of the new RTX graphics cards are built on NVIDIA’s revolutionary new Turing architecture. It relies on a trio of different types of cores that join forces to produce visuals never before seen in games. The CUDA cores handle the rasterization that’s used to render today’s titles, but the true stars of the new show are the new RT and Tensor cores. The RT cores perform ray tracing, which reproduces more realistic lighting and shadow effects in images. Until now, ray tracing was too computationally intensive to perform in real time, but the dedicated RT cores have the power. They’re aided by Turing’s Tensor cores that use AI to make the ray tracing more efficient and produce even more lifelike imagery.
The RTX 2070 boasts 2304 CUDA cores, with a base clock of 1410 MHz and a 1620 MHz boost frequency as well as 42T RTX-OPS and 6 Giga Rays/s. Like its bigger brother the RTX 2080, the RTX 2070 boasts 8GB of the new, efficient GDDR6 memory. All of the new RTX graphics cards rock the same 448GB/s memory bandwidth through a 256-bit bus.
For all their similarities, the RTX 2070 presents a significant cost savings of hundreds of dollars over the RTX 2080 Ti and RTX 2080.
Strix has the best of RTX
A great graphics card requires great engineering, so we built the ROG Strix GeForce RTX 2070 with a custom circuit board using our Auto Extreme Technology. This manufacturing process is precise and automated, completing all the soldering on a single pass, leaving no pointy solder points on the rear of the PCB. It’s more efficient both mechanically and environmentally, minimizing the thermal strain on the components while reducing the use of harsh chemicals and lowering the manufacturing power consumption. The premium chokes and capacitors onboard the ROG Strix RTX 2070 marry that high-end design with clean power. We tripled the structural integrity of the PCB to ensure that there’s no torsion or lateral bending. The metal plate on the rear of the PCB reinforces the ROG Strix RTX 2070’s PCB, but we went above and beyond by loading up the card with a reinforced frame, too.
Of course, the ROG Strix RTX 2070 enjoys Aura Sync lighting. Trimmed in LEDs, you can enable all manner of lighting effects in glorious RGB, including Breathing, Strobing, Color Cycle, and more. You can even sync the lighting to pulse in time to your music, or program the color to indicate the GPU temperature. If you’re feeling ninja-like, you can kill the lights altogether and slip into Stealth mode with the press of a button.
Stay cool for hot performance
We ensure that our cards get the most out of the GPU by maximizing cooling. It starts with our MaxContact technology that leverages precision machining to create the smoothest possible heat spreader surface. It’s ten times flatter than traditional heat spreaders and improves heat transfer by doubling the surface contact with the GPU.
To better dissipate the heat, the ROG Strix RTX 2070 has a massive 2.5-slot heatsink. It cools well enough by itself that you can enter 0dB mode and keep the fans off for totally silent performance. They’ll kick back on if the GPU temps hit 55° C.
When the battle heats up, it’s time for our patented Wing-blade fans to take over. Their unique edge shape ensures that they operate more quietly while pushing higher air pressure. The latest generation of the Wing-blade fans boast a smaller hub that allows for even longer fan blades to take cooling to the next level. Fans can lose efficiency over time as they collect dust, but these Wing-blade fans stay cleaner longer thanks to their IP5X dust resistance.
Most case fans respond primarily to CPU and motherboard temperatures, but the graphics card needs some special attention, too. PC cases are loaded with fans to keep all components cool, but we take a more intelligent approach with FanConnect II and GPU Tweak II. We put two 4-pin fan headers on the ROG Strix RTX 2070 so the system’s cooling can respond to the GPU temps as well as to the CPU’s heat.
We pair that with GPU Tweak II so you can customize its fan settings, including fan profiles and overclocking. With the card’s dual BIOS capability, you can create and save a Performance mode for optimal cooling performance no matter the situation. Quiet mode is for when you want to dial in quieter operation at lower temperatures.
Making connections...to the future!
The Strix ROG RTX 2070 is loaded with the ports you need to connect to next-gen G-Sync monitors and VR headsets. To that end it has two DisplayPort 1.4 and two HDMI 2.0b ports, but more exciting is the future-proof USB Type-C port. USB Type-C is incredibly powerful and flexible because it supports not merely high-bandwidth data, audio, and video at once, but because it’s so extensible with Alt Modes. The Strix ROG RTX 2070’s one Type-C port has an Alt Mode that supports the new VirtualLink standard. Designed specifically for the next wave of VR headsets, it combines four DisplayPort lanes, USB 3.1 Gen 2, and 27W of power delivery into one cable and connector.
Turbo-powered RTX 2070
Not every PC has a spacious chassis. To accommodate a wide range of build sizes, we cut down the heatsink on the ASUS Turbo RTX 2070 to two slots and reworked some key details. Its shroud more efficiently angles airflow towards the fan intake, and a redesigned rear I/O panel exhausts air more freely. We beefed up the fan for this generation from 60mm to 80mm to push even more air, and it spins on long-lasting dual ball bearings.
ASUS Dual doubles down
Whereas the ASUS Turbo RTX 2070 goes slimmer to accommodate all manner of builds, the ASUS Dual RTX 2070’s heatsink is beefed up for maximum cooling. It covers 2.7 slots, which represents a whopping 50% increase in total surface area compared to the last-gen Cerberus.
It shares the new Wing-blade design with the ROG Strix RTX 2070, including the 0dB operation and longer blades, as well as the reinforced aluminum back plate for extra support. Like the ROG Strix and ASUS Turbo cards, the ASUS Double RTX 2070 cards boasts IP5X dust resistance to ensure that the fans operate longer and more efficiently over time.
