ROG RAIDR: External Thunderbolt SSD

The ROG RAIDR was shown at the very end of the ROG Computex press conference as a special addition to the event. The RAIDR is a concept device with 'multiple' SSDs internally setup in RAID-0 and a Thunderbolt connection to the PC. Is storage gaming related? The ROG team have several reasons for designing the RAIDR; rog-raidr-1
  • It's so fast you can install your games and key programs straight to it, while the Thunderbolt connection treats it like an internal drive.
  • At LANs, the latest full-game backups from Steam (or other service) can be distributed among players quickly (as long as everyone owns the game on their own account), easing the pressure on the shared network and net connection.
  • It's completely portable unlike many existing external Thunderbolt devices, while the tapered edge means you can just throw it in your pocket. (Well, not 'throw').
  • Any other excuse performance nuts need lightning fast mass storage!
No launch date has been set for the RAIDR yet.
