Great PC Mods of 2016
We've rounded up some of this year's top mods from the ROG community. Of course, there's so many modders out there we might have missed a few - so if you've spotted something we haven't included, drop us a note in the case modding forum. Now then, in no particular order beyond how we've spotted them, the list:
Beasty Mods: Phoenix
by OZ Mods
The mix of backlit and metal phoenix's rising from the fire inside and out works exceptionally well in this mod from Oz Mods. Including an ROG Maximus VIII Extreme and a ton of red, hard-line water-cooling it's hawt stuff indeed!
L3p StiegerWood
by L3p
Netherlands' mega-modder, L3p, produces another masterpiece with his StiegerWood project. Surprisingly devoid of actual wood, he squeezes a fully water-cooled PC build into a tiny home theatre chassis. If the copious quantities of blinged chrome aren't enough to keep you staring, the incredible, intricacy of this build certainly is. Featuring an ROG Impact mini-ITX motherboard plus 'Mini' graphics card inside.
In-Win Duke
by SimpleMods
Built in a limited edition In-Win D-Frame 2.0, this 'open-air' mod is certianly worth noting for a number of reasons: the care and attention to picking and matching the right components, and their color choices. It is an interesting mix of matt-black, metallic lime green and ASUS' premium white, which is quite unusual yet really works well. The extensive use of BitsPower water-cooling is also welcome for the sake of variety in the modding scene too. Its use of simple plastic cut outs and triangular shapes is artistic and stylish, perfectly complementing the angular chassis, Nvidia graphics cards and ASUS motherboard IO shield.
Project DOOM
by Zen Mods
Zenator brings the DOOM universe to his mod with such intricate detail I'm not sure if he'll be playing on the machine, or in it. With a fear-inducing design definitely not for kids, this mod is both brilliant and nightmare fuel. Not one I'd want to have on the desk when gaming with the lights off, that's for sure!
MWAVE Mod Wars: Core P3 Tank Train Hybrid
by imfaceroll
Packing a Maximus VIII Hero and water-cooled insides, this tank-slash-train mod cleverly hides the PC inside its wonderfully modelled exterior. With clever tricks like using the radiator fans to immitate the wheels/tracks, and the inner red lighting gives it a powerful glow that makes you think it should be rolling around the neighbourhood rather than resigned to a desk job.
ROG Battle Station
By Chas Burkhart
Let's face it, Chas doesn't just sit down to game, he goes to war. That can only explain this incredible and elaborate shrine, which he calls The ROG Battle Station. Few things are more appropriately named. I'm guessing his favorite color is red..
Tie P5 Advanced
by imfaceroll
Squeezing a full PC into a model tie-fighter is no easy trick, yet a productive imfaceroll achieved it. As stunning as the model is, the nice mix of blue lighting and red water-cooling draws the attention to the inside goodies as well.
Project Alternate (Desk Mod)
by deblow
This huge, yet immacuately crafted desk leaves the user enveloped in its very prescence. The 32-inch display in the picture below gives you an idea of its sheer scale! Its angular sides remind us of the Stealth Bomber-inspired ROG notebooks, and the attention to detail on the buttons, cooling fans and cabling is simply awesome.
The Power Cell
by Zen Mods
Another Zenator mod popped out at us on the forums, with this unique, Star Wars inspired 'power-cell'. The water-cooling gets wrapped inside-through-outside, with tubing from top-to-bottom. Zenator has cleverly hidden the PC hardware in the base, top and behind the three pillars, making the see-in internal space seem remarkably empty. The casing has also been cleverly aged to make it look like it's really been used.
